Phil Pace, founder of the iconic Phil’s BBQ in San Diego, grew up in a tight-knit Italian family that owned and operated an Italian restaurant—an experience that instilled in him a deep love for food and hospitality from an early age. Drawing on that foundation, he developed his own signature barbecue recipes, creating bold sauces and spice rubs that became the hallmark of Phil’s BBQ when it opened in 1998.
